This article covers how to connect your Nextdoor Account to Social Media Archiving (formerly ArchiveSocial).
Important Note
- Nextdoor's API is still in Beta and Social Media Archiving is making best efforts to capture all available content.
- Currently, we can capture the following content
- Account Profile
- Public Agency (Account) Posts
- Nextdoor API limitations/restrictions:
- Videos in posts cannot be captured
- Polls cannot be captured and will show as blank records
- Backtracking is currently limited to the 50 most recent amount posts
- Nextdoor API limitations/restrictions:
- User Comments on Account Posts
- Nextdoor API limitations/restrictions
- Only the user ID, not the name of the Profile, will show for users making comments.
- Attachments from comments cannot be captured
- Direct messages cannot be captured
- Nextdoor API limitations/restrictions
- Events
- Nextdoor API limitations/restrictions:
- The event date and time cannot be captured
- Nextdoor API limitations/restrictions:
- We expect a more robust capture of additional content in the future as Nextdoor expands its API access.

Required
Each Staff user posting to your Nextdoor Agency account must connect their Staff account to the Archive in order to capture their posts made on the Agency account.
- Example: If you have three Staff member accounts posting to your Agency account, all three should individually connect their Staff account under their respective Social Media Archiving Account Owner user.
- Agency account records will be split up and housed under each Staff user account that created the records.
Connect as an Account Owner: Initial Steps
- Find the Account Owner setup email titled CivicPlus Social Media Archiving: Action Required - Connect your Social Media Accounts.
- Click the custom link provided in the email to navigate to your Connect Accounts page.
- On the next window select Connect Nextdoor
Note: Bookmark this window so you can access your personalized account connection page in the future.
Connect as a System Administrator: Initial Steps
- Sign in to your Archive
- Select the Configure tab
- Navigate to the Social Media Accounts tab
- Next to your name click Connect Accounts Note: If the Account Owner's email is different from your System Administrator email, you'll need to click the sign next to I have the account credentials to connect accounts for [Account Owner name] in order to locate the Connect Account button from Step 4.
Connect Nextdoor Instructions
- Open a Separate tab in your browser, log into Nextdoor.com, and confirm you are logged into the account you'd like to add to the archive.
- Navigate back to your archive and click the Connect Nextdoor button.
- Use the pop-up prompt to log in (if you are already logged in, it will recognize the account and skip that step).
- Accept the permissions to archive the account.
- You will get the following confirmation message after completing this connection flow
Confirm the Correct Account is Connected
System Admins have the option to check that the correct account was connected.
- Navigate to the Browse tab
- Select the Account Owner's name
- Select the Nextdoor Account
- Click the View button next to the Profile Option
- This will display the Profile Record. Confirm the Agency account is displayed and the record includes Is Neighbor Profile: False.
- If you see Is Neighbor Profile: True the Account Owner has connected their personal Nextdoor Profile and not their Agency Profile. In this case, contact Support to have the Neighbor Profile Removed and ensure the correct Agency account is connected.
