Facebook Advisory: Direct Login Accounts

Facebook’s Terms of Service mandate that a Facebook Page must be administered by an authentic Facebook Profile that has a Page role.

Years ago, Facebook had briefly allowed a Page to be managed directly, allowing users to use a separate login called a Direct Login Account, also termed a Gray Account or Shared Login Account, to both create and administer the Page, without the use of a Profile.

Many of our customers took advantage of this option while it was available, and continue to use these direct login accounts to manage their Pages today.

Facebook’s updated Terms of Service have led to these direct login accounts being deprecated and on their way to being shut down.

Facebook does not have any official documentation available either acknowledging the existence of direct login accounts or explaining the decline in their functionality and eventual shutdown. Regardless, a Page must now be managed by at least one Profile.

When people stand behind their opinions and actions, our community is safer and more accountable. For this reason, you must:;

• Use the same name that you use in everyday life.
• Provide accurate information about yourself.
• Create only one account (your own) and use your timeline for personal purposes.
• Note share your password, give access to your Facebook account to others, or transfer your account to anyone else (without your permission).

Those who still rely on Direct Login access to manage their Page without the use of a Profile run the risk of losing access to the Page. This will lead to having to reclaim the Page.

How to Exit the "too many redirects" error message when using a Direct Login Account.

1. Navigate to the upgrade account Facebook page
2. The landing page of this link is broken butyou will have the option to clickGo to News Feed.
3. This will remove you from the redirect error loop. You can now add a Profile to the Page as a Page Administrator.

How to Transition Page Administration from a Direct Login Account to a Profile.

Adding a Profile as a Page Admin is the only assurance of both maintaining ownership of your Page and connecting your Page to the Archive. The Profile must accept the invitation to be a Page admin. Should this not show up in your Profile notifications, invites can be found here.

Update: As of October 2019, many users with a Direct Login Account cannot access their Page settings to add a Profile as a Page Admin, due to increased account deprecation by Facebook.
