Social Media Archiving (Formerly ArchiveSocial) supports the disposal of social media records in accordance with your records retention schedule. Before setting up retention rules for your archive, we recommend you consider the following:
- Records disposed of from your archive may still be available on the networks: Retention rules only apply to records of your social media content stored in your archive, and disposal does not delete these records from the social media platforms. (Social Media Archiving never makes changes to your content on social media platforms). You may wish to specify the time period for which you are responsible for maintaining and producing records in your social media policy, even if those records are still accessible after the retention schedule expires.
- Records disposed of from your archive may remove context from Blocked Lists: The use of retention rules and subsequent disposal may result in the destruction of records associated with a blocked user, and consequently, you may no longer have evidence as to why a user was blocked. If your policy allows for blocking users on social media networks you might not want to set retention rules or ensure that you export records associated with blocked users before doing so.
